On April 2016, internationally
renowned artist William Kentri-
dge presented “Triumphs and
Laments”, his colossal tribute
to the history of Rome. A 550
meters long frieze on the Tiber
banks, portraying the glories
and the tragedies of the Eternal
City, from its birth to Pasolini’s
murder, from Bernini to Dolce
Vita and the refugee crisis. The
most majestic artwork taking
place in Rome since the pain-
ting of the Sistine Chapel will
disappear within a few months.
This film, shot with exclusive
access over two years, will be
its only memory.

WILLIAM KENTRIDGE - TRIUMPHS AND LAMENTS
Francisca Sardonil Ruiz, better
known as « La Tati », is the last
living legend of Flamenco. To
the point that, in 2009, UNESCO
named her “Heritage of Spain”
one year before attributing the
title to the flamenco dance it-
self! Dancing since the age of 6,
along her career she has shared
the stage with artists like Ella
Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Paco
de Lucia, Carmen Maura and
Joaquim Cortés. Nowadays she
is still the tireless and admired
teacher for hundreds of fla-
menco dancers, coming every
year to Madrid from all over
the world to attend her course
at the “Amor the Dios” school.
For the first time, the camera
follows La Tati inside and outsi-
de the school, trying to portray
the unicity of the extraordinary
woman and to capture the real
essence of flamenco and its va-
lues. Because La Tati is not only
a dancer who inspired entire
generations…she is the soul of
Flamenco itself!
