René Gruau: the most sophisticated and talented fashion illustrator of the twentieth century. Stylist, advertising designer, magazine illustrator, costume artist, stage designer... Renato Zavagli – this is Gruau’s real Italian name - worked in the world of fashion from the 1930s until the 1990s with innate elegance and instantly recognizable style. For the first time, a documentary takes us in a voyage in discovery of René Gruau’s revolutionary style, revealing the secrets of the artist who created the image of great fashion houses such as Dior and adorned the covers of Marie Claire, Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue for over five decades. For the first time, the largest and unpublished collection of drawings by René Gruau, as well as unseen interviews with the great illustrator, will be made known to a large public, revealing a talent which, despite all the nostalgic rhetoric, continues to inspire the world of fashion.
