I AM SOFIA
Sofia counts and while she counts she
changes. She is 28 and her life is only now
exploding, with lightness and terror. Sofia
counts the days, and while counting she
pushes a name away, a dull sound that
disturbs and leaves her grasping for air, if
pronounced out loud. E. was born on 7 June
1990. Beautiful, strong, healthy. E. vanished
definitively on November 14, 2018. In the
middle, in that indefinite space modeled on
fiction, a young woman was forged. Sofia
flies to Thailand and at the other side of the
world she tells us that everything has its
beginning and that this is her birth. And that
now she can finally stop counting.

MY BEST
“I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast
cars. The rest I just squandered”. So wrote George
Best, one of the greatest football players to have
ever grace the world stage and the forerunner
of the rock star persona in football. His only
son Calum has indulged in many of his famous
father’s excesses, but being famous thanks to
a man he barely knew gradually became really
uncomfortable for him. Calum decides to embark
on a road-trip to discover who his father really was
through the people who had known him. This film
is the story of a son searching for a father. A very
famous father, all of whom know everything, but
who failed to show his true side to his only son.

Charleroi, a small town close to Brussels, can be taken as a
symbol of the problems affecting today’s Europe. With the
collapse of manufacturing industry, the rising unemployment,
the increasing immigration and the lack of a shared identity,
today’s social unease reflects on the lives of the citizens
and the physical environment they live in.

40 years after her last documentary, 85 years oldCecilia
Mangini, the first Italian female documentary filmmaker,
embarks on a road trip across Apulia, her native region
once in full expansion. She discovers a land ravaged: the
biggest steel mill in Europe, located in Taranto, poisoned
the area. Her travel turns then into an attempt to understand
how the relation between men and industrialization has turned
the post-war era optimism into uncertainty.

The development of Camorra in Naples has shaped the
way the city evolved. From the simple smuggling of its
beginnings to organized, powerful unified clans, Camorra
has developed its own military power. Through the usage
of vintage films and original newscasts, Camorra is a visceral,
film-like report of the true face of one of the most powerful
mafia organization.
