OPENING ACT
Milan. Accademia del Teatro alla
Scala, the only institution in the
world to train the whole range of
theatre professionals. Shot over
one year, this film follows the
lives of the students and reveals
the heartbreaking, body crushing
training routine, recounts their
anxiety and takes us into the
spectacular world of opening
nights. Because everything for
those young people converges
on that very moment, when they
can show their talent or fail.

2017 marked a century from the recording of what
is historically considered the first jazz record, but
very few know that it was recorded by a Sicilian
emigrant to New Orleans: Nick La Rocca. The
record sold a million and half copies. Featuring
exclusive interviews to American music critics,
historians and archivists, as well as amazing
archive picturing New Orleans at the beginning
of the century, Sicily Jass takes us on a journey
through music and history, telling the story of the
world’s first man in jazz.

THE CROSS
AND THE GUN
BEHIND THE ALTAR
In the wakes of Pope Francis’s historical
excommunication of all Mafiosi, Historian and
Mafia Expert John Dickie investigates the unholy
ties that have bound the church to organized
crime. He will track down the priests who have
cozied up with mobsters and meet others who
are risking their lives for standing up against them.
Much has been said about the
Catholic Church’s sex abuse
scandals. We have heard the
pain of victims and seen dioceses
going bankrupt for compensating
the survivors. Yet with Pope
Francis, we have all thought
that the crisis was over, that the
church had learnt its lesson. What
we have found out instead, is
rather shocking: 2 pedophiles
out of 3 are still in the clergy, the
special tribunal he created does
not exist and bishops are still
instructed to not report abuses
to the authorities. In this film,
historian John Dickie investigates
the reasons of Pope’s inaction.
