Every Sunday at sunrise, a silent procession climbs up to the mountaintop of Monte Pellegrino in Palermo, to reach the sanctuary of Santa Rosalia. These pilgrims are Tamil and they compete in worship with the locals for the love of Saint, "beautiful as Kali" to their eyes.
On the run from the hunger and war that pester Sri Lanka, the Tamils, Hindu devotee, have found safety in Palermo and a familiar protective figure in Santa Rosalia, the figure of Amman, the Mother Goddess. After a miracle that saved the life of the first Tamil born in Palermo, the worship of Santa Rosalia spread around the community. For the pure faith of Tamils, there is no contrast between a Catholic Mass and the Hindu rituals that they continue to celebrate.
